WESTOVER WOODLANDS - CREATING A SAXON TIMBER HOUSE.

Click for homepage.

The following pictures show the sequence of converting timber from logs to a finished saxon timber farmhouse at West Stow Country Park and Anglo-Saxon Village, St Edmundsbury, West Suffolk.

The logs are delivered for cleft oak wall boards.

After being cleft in half the logs are quartered.

The wall boards are ready for hand finishing.

Axe hewn rebates were cut for each board.

The completed structure awaiting its roof.

During this project we worked with Traditional Oak Carpentry Ltd, a small but dedicated group of timber frame carpenters able to repair historic frames or frame new buildings.
